Welcome in my little world !

To be a percussionist

Publié le 6 Avril 2013 par Doriane in To be a percussionist

A percussionist has to play differents percussions instruments (contrary to others musicians of others families of instruments).

In music, there are three cycles of level. In each cycle, there are 4 years, and at the end of each year, the musician has to pass an exam. (Present a piece which is imposed in front of a jury, and which has 6 weeks of preparation). If the musician get this exam, he's promoted and the level is hardest after each exam validated. This is the system of all the instruments, but it's quite different when you're a percussionist. At each exam, a percussionist doesn't has just one piece with one instrument to perform, but he plays several instruments in one or several pieces. In an exam piece of percussion, there is a part for the kettledrum, one for the snare drum, and one for the keybord (it can be the xylophone, the marimba, or the vibraphone).

As far as I'm concerned, this year I have promoted my third cycle, and I'm a percussionist since 11 years. My favourites percussions instruments are the xylophone, the vibraphone and the marimba (the keybords). But I enjoy too of being a timpanist and a drummer. (The drum is a percussion but it's considerate as an alone instrument, there is also an exam just for the drummers).
